The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo- Stieg Larsson

This book was about a girl that has gone missing 36 years ago. Mikael Blomkvist, a journalist for Millennium is asked by Henrik Vanger to find out what happened to Harriet Vanger (the girl that had gone missing). The catch is that Mikael had just been sentenced to three months in prison because he was accused and found guilty of libel (against a competing magazine owner, Wennerstrom). Once Mikael is done with his sentence, he goes to live on Hedeby Island with Henrik Vanger. Once there, he does a lot of research to find out what happened to Harriet Vanger. At some point in the story, Mikael realizes that he needs a research assistant. He picks Lisbeth Salander, a private investigator for Milton Security, to be his research assistant. With her help, Blomkvist decodes messages that were left in Harriet's journal. They uncover that Harriet's brother, Martin, and her father, Gottfried, were serial murderers. However, they did not kill Harriet (they did abuse her). It turns out that Harriet fled from Sweden to Australia, to escape the abuse of her family.

For the most part, I liked this book very much. But, there is so much abuse in the book, and no one is really punished for it. The book wasn't written to teach you a lesson. All this book was was a criminal mystery. I would not recommend this book to someone that isn't willing to read the entire story, since it is almost 500 pages long.
