The Notebook - Nicholas Sparks

          The book starts off with an old man reading to an old woman, and apparently he does this every day. The story he reads begins with the main character, Noah, sitting at his home. His neighbor, Gus, comes to visit him and Gus knows that Noah is trying to forget something. We find out soon that what Noah is trying to forget is his lost love, Allie. He and Allie were in love a while back, and we find out how close they were. However, Allie then had to move away. Then the story switches to Allie's POV. Allie is engaged to a succesful lawyer named Lon. However, she has returned to New Bern because lately she's been thinking a lot about Noah. Then it switches back to Noah where we find out  about how he joined the war and then returned to New Bern. He fixed up the house he lives in now. Soon Allie builds up enough courage to go see Noah. She drives to his house where they reconnect. They have dinner together and catch up. The next day, Noah takes Allie out on the creek where they go to a beautiful place with lots of birds. After that, they kiss even though Allie is still engaged. After that, Noah and Allie spend more time with each other and over a couple of days they realize they never stopped loving each other. Allie breaks it off with Lon, and Allie and Noah are finally together. Then, the scene returns to the old man reading to the old woman. We find out that the man is actually Noah and the woman is Allie. They had gotten married and had four children together. However, Allie developed Alzheimer's. Noah and Allie moved to Creekside Extended Care, and Allie lost her memory. As Noah brings Allie to a romantic dinner in her room, she remembers him! This sometimes happens after he reads the story to her, but it is a mystery how. Like all the other times she had remembered him, Allie quickly forgot again. A couple days later, Noah has a stroke and goes to the hospital. When he returns, he sneaks into Allie's room to see her, kisses her, and she instantly remembers him. Overall, the book is so great and I love it!
