Miracle on 49th Street- Mike Lupica
For the IRP, I read Miracle on 49th Street by Mike Lupica. In this book a twelve year old girl named Molly Parker claims her dad is star Boston Celtics player Josh Cameron. Molly claims her mother, Jen, revealed his true identity before she lost her battle with cancer and passed away. At first, Josh doesn't believe her and thinks Molly is just trying to scam him for money. Still, there is something about Molly with her certain look she has and her smart aleck that reminds Josh so much of Jen. Though, as Molly starts to get to know Josh, it’s she who has the doubts about him. Suddenly she understands why her mother never wanted to know the real Josh Cameron, the one the camera never sees. Molly realizes that Josh only has room in his heart for two things: basketball and himself. Does Molly really want Josh Cameron as her father? I strongly recommend this book to people who like sports and athletics.

Yes Gary, I don't want to give away too much of the ending, but Josh ends up loving Molly for who she really is and not because a genetic test would have said so. Even though, in the story they do not take the test, because Molly wants Josh to believe her that she is truly his daughter.
Marc, What doubts does Molly have about Josh?
Joe, Molly feels that Josh will not have anytime for her because she thinks that he only has time for two things: basketball and himself. Molly doesn't want to waste her time and try to get to know Josh if he isn't going to pay any attention to her.
